Buy Toluene Test Gas (C7H8) Online

Do you need toluene (C7H8) as a test gas or calibration gas? Here in the All-in-Gas online store, you can find toluene in test gas cylinder sizes from 12 to 112 liters volume, as well as in concentrations of 5 ppm or 200 ppm in air. As a calibration gas for explosimeters, toluene is one of the most proven and widely used gases - choose the right variant for you here! Furthermore, not only can you find test gases in our online shop, but also various pressure regulators for test gas cylinders and much more accessories.

More Information on Toluene as a calibration gas

Toluene is an aromatic hydrocarbon with the structural formula C7H8 and is also known under the names methylbenzene, toluol, phenylmethane, or toluene. It is a colorless, volatile liquid with a characteristic odor and is also contained in gasoline, among other things. As mentioned before, it is often used as a gas for calibrating explosimeters or ex-meters, noting that in principle, any gas that the device sensor can detect can be used. In the context of fire brigades, toluene, along with methane, is very commonly used as a calibration gas - the latter especially because it is a major component of natural gas and is most often responsible for the risk of explosion in emergency situations. However, calibrating with methane has a downside: the concentration of other measured gases is significantly underestimated.

In general, the use of explosimeters aims to detect hydrocarbons. For this purpose, the calorimetric sensor is calibrated as sensitively as possible to signal a concentration of various substances that is rather too high than too low. Calibration with toluene has proven to be very effective for this, as it allows the gas detector to be adjusted approximately four to five times more sensitively than is the case with methane. It would be incorrect and unsafe to calibrate with methane since practically no gases exist that a calorimetric sensor would react to more sensitively than to methane.
