Buy chlorine (Cl2) calibration gas online

Do you need chlorine test gas (Cl2)? Many of our customers who order chlorine as a test or calibration gas use it, for example, for calibrating sensors, leak detection, or tightness testing in water treatment plants, swimming pools, chemical plants, for monitoring environmental conditions, or in production facilities of various industries. Which chlorine test gas variant do you need? Here in the All-in-Gas online shop, you can obtain chlorine (Cl) in test gas concentrations of 5 ppm and 10 ppm in nitrogen (N2), as well as in cylinder sizes of 34 l, 60 l, or 112 l. Do you also need the right accessories? We also have pressure reducers or test gas withdrawal regulators and other calibration gas accessory items available in the All-in-Gas online shop. By the way: With every test gas order, a free 30-minute webinar is included for you! In it, you will receive all the information on the topic of test gases – from the right choice and correct application of test gases and withdrawal regulators to further details like testing deadlines and types for portable gas measuring devices, as well as the testing of gas warning devices for fire brigades, THW & rescue services. Order your chlorine test gas in the All-in-Gas online shop now.

NOTE: Please note that chlorine Cl2 is not available in the 12 l ALLCAN.

Additional Information About Chlorine Test Gas (Cl2)

Chlorine (Cl2) derives from the Greek word chlorós, meaning "greenish-yellow." As the meaning suggests, it is also a greenish-yellow gas. The chemical symbol for chlorine is Cl, and in its elemental form as Cl2, occurrences of chlorine on this planet are very rare, due to its extreme reactivity. However, it is found in traces in the ozone layer and also in volcanic gases. Chlorine atoms are also present in the salts of salt deposits in chemically bound form. Moreover, chlorides (Cl-) are soluble in water and, accordingly, are present in large amounts in seawater. Chlorine in the form of chloride ions (Cl-) also occurs in the human body in table salt and is essential here for regulating water balance. Marine organisms such as sponges, algae, or seaweed are also capable of producing numerous chlorine-containing compounds.

Chlorine gas, on the other hand, is toxic to humans, animals, plants, and microorganisms such as bacteria. Not only does it easily destroy animal and plant tissue, but it also has a corrosive effect on human skin. Inhalation of chlorine gas can lead to chlorine gas poisoning: Concentrations as low as 1 ppm can impair lung function and cause eye irritation, while a chlorine gas concentration of 500 ppm can be fatal within minutes. Chlorine is used in various industries, including the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries, in paper and pulp production, electronics manufacturing, and also in wastewater treatment. The gas plays an important role in the production of antifreeze, brake fluids, fuel additives, pesticides, and plastics. To reduce their sulfur emissions, such as hydrogen sulfide or sulfur dioxide, refineries also inject chlorine directly into their stacks. One of the most important chemical reactions of chlorine is its combination with hydrogen to form hydrogen chloride, a key component in many industrial processes. This gas, better known as hydrochloric acid in aqueous solution, is a fundamental building block in the chemical industry and plays an important role in the production of PVC and many other plastics.

In environments where personnel are potentially exposed to the dangers of Cl2 gas – such as in storage tanks or near processing plants – air monitoring is mandatory, using chlorine gas, chlorine dioxide, and ozone systems. Chlorine gas warning devices continuously monitor the chlorine content in the chlorine gas room and possibly in additional technical rooms to detect chlorine gas leaks or outbreaks early. This immediately informs the personnel about technical defects to take appropriate measures. Chlorine gas warning devices can trigger the overhead sprinkler system in the affected chlorine gas room immediately upon a chlorine gas outbreak and send acoustic and optical warnings via external signal transmitters.

Chlorine test gas or calibration gas is therefore of crucial importance to guarantee the precision and performance of those gas warning systems, sensors, and measuring devices in these diverse application areas. Regular checks and calibrations with chlorine test gas ensure that safety-critical systems function properly and that employees can move in a safe environment where potential risks are identified in time.
